SQL Database Administrator will utilize his/her superior knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL and other database systems to support multiple business units in their daily activities as it relates to data. This person will also research, install and implement the latest Microsoft and 3rd party products and tools to enhance current and future use and functionality of SQL Databases and related products.

Responsibilities

The SQL DB Administrator will focus on managing existing databases as well as providing expert advice on creating new databases. The candidate will be a part of a highly skilled team of IT professionals, who are committed to delivering exceptional IT support services to our clients. The candidate is expected to provide support during normal business hours as well as after hours, including weekends and holidays. This position assumes a high degree of independent thinking and the ability to deliver functional solutions within established guidelines.

  • SQL DB Administrator will keep the database environment up and running smoothly 24/7. The goal is to provide a seamless flow of information throughout the company’s production applications and development process.
  • Design and Implement Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies, including backup/restore, high availability to achieve Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) goals.
  • Be responsible for the development and facilitation of a methodology for the ongoing assessment of database performance and identification/resolution of problem areas.
  • Work with the development team through the software development lifecycle including during the design, development and implementation of new applications or features.
  • Work with the transaction processing area to develop both the physical and the logical database administration functions and assist in the development of our processing database and computing environments.
  • Work with vendors, if needed, in evaluating and implementing new technologies.

Plan and assist DBA and product teams with SQL Server, MySQL upgrades and successful cutover.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business/industry training and on the job experience.
  • 5 or more years working in a business environment supporting Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019/2022.
  • Working knowledge of administering/tuning MySQL 8.0+, PostgreSQL 15.0+ is desired.
  • Experience managing Databases in cloud environments, specifically Azure Databases and AWS infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL Server installations, applying service packs and version upgrades.
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL based data backup, recovery, security, integrity and performance monitoring and tuning best practices in both on-prem and cloud scenarios.
  • In-depth hands-on experience implementing databases using industry best practices for end user applications.
  • Ability to work with developers to review, test and deploy SQL changes to production.
  • Working knowledge of SSRS, SSIS, SSAS and ETL processes.
  • Working knowledge of managing databases in “AlwaysOn High Availability” environment.
  • Effective written and verbal skills. Ability to communicate with IT and non-IT personnel
  • Ability to work varying hours, early mornings, evenings, weekends and holiday

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with database design, documentation and SQL coding.
  • Previous experience with DBA case tools (frontend/backend) and third-party tools.
  • Problem solving skills and ability to think independently in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work with developers and other IT colleagues as well as non-IT personnel.
  • Solid knowledge of networking principles as well as Windows server management and administration.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex problems independently and as part of the team.
  • Familiarity with PCI regulations and corresponding practices of securing sensitive information.

Additional “nice to have” skills:

  • Familiarity with DevOps tools and/or software build environments.
  • Familiarity with change management and agile methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Database monitoring tools (Idera SQL Compliance Manager is preferred)
