Responsibilities

 

JOB OVERVIEW:

 

Network Support Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day support, maintenance, and optimization of the organization’s network infrastructure. This role ensures the availability, performance, and security of network systems, provides technical support to internal teams, and resolves network-related incidents in a timely and professional manner.  The ideal candidate is someone who can thrive in a challenging, rewarding environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Network Operations and Maintenance

  • Monitor, maintain, and support enterprise network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and internet connectivity.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points.
  • Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and patches to ensure network reliability and performance.
  • Ensure high availability and compliance with operational standards and service-level agreements (SLAs).

Incident Management and Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and resolve network issues related to connectivity, performance, and security.
  • Respond to network incidents, outages, and service requests within defined SLAs.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Escalate complex or unresolved issues to senior engineers, vendors, or service providers as required.

Change and Configuration Management

  • Implement network changes in accordance with approved change management processes.
  • Maintain accurate configuration records, network backups, and version control.
  • Support IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, routing, and firewall configurations.

Security and Compliance

  • Support network security initiatives, including firewall management, VPN access, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Monitor network activity for potential security threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with organizational security policies and regulatory requirements.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Create and maintain up-to-date network documentation, including diagrams, topology maps, and procedures.
  • Document incidents, resolutions, and changes in ticketing and knowledge management systems.
  • Prepare reports on network performance, availability, and recurring issues.

Collaboration and Support

  • Provide second- and third-line network support to internal users and IT teams.
  • Collaborate with system administrators, cloud teams, and external service providers.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve network performance, resilience, and scalability.
  • Stay current with emerging networking technologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Participate in training, certifications, and professional development activities.

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in network support or network engineering roles.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, and network security principles.
  • Experience with network monitoring and ticketing systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP Network+) are an advantage.
  • 5+ years’ experience with Switches, Routers, Servers, Firewall, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, Latency, VoIP, Qos, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, ATM, VPN, MPLS.
  • 7 to 10 years of technology experience background

The salary range on this job posting/advertising has been developed to give applicants a range based on the local market where the candidate would be working.  Many factors, such as years of experience, budget etc. are considered when determining the starting rate of pay. 

 

This role may be eligible for an incentive, commission, bonus, or a discretionary bonus program based on the company’s financial goal achievement and individual performance.
