Responsibilities

The Manager of Application Development owns the engineering team’s execution and the technical health, security, PCI compliance, and operational reliability of AgentMate, while partnering with Product and Delivery on approved priorities.

This is a hands-on management role for an experienced senior .NET engineer who can manage and mentor developers while remaining close to the code. The manager will translate business priorities into reliable software, help guide technical decisions, improve engineering discipline, and partner with product, delivery, infrastructure, security, and business teams to deliver secure, scalable, user-focused solutions.

A primary focus of this role is to ensure that AgentMate is secure, compliant, reliable, maintainable, and operationally sound, with particular emphasis on PCI requirements, application security, vulnerability management, secure development practices, access controls, data protection, and remediation of security risks.

The manager works closely with Information Security, Infrastructure, QA, Product, Delivery, and business stakeholders to ensure development activities meet established security, compliance, architectural, quality, and operational standards. The role supports product and business priorities from an engineering perspective but is not the primary owner of product strategy or roadmap direction.

Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop the AgentMate application development team, setting clear expectations for delivery, quality, security, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Plan and prioritize team capacity in partnership with product and delivery leaders; manage competing priorities, dependencies, production needs, and technical debt.
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones, provide timely feedback, support career development, and build succession and knowledge-sharing practices.
  • Create an inclusive, pragmatic engineering culture that values ownership, transparency, continuous learning, and measurable improvement.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance management, and resource planning for the application development team.

Hands-On Application Development

  • Remain actively involved in solution design, coding, code review, troubleshooting, and delivery for business-critical AgentMate capabilities.
  • Design, build, test, and maintain modern applications and services using C#, .NET/.NET Core, ASP.NET Core, RESTful APIs, SQL, and Azure-aligned services.
  • Guide the development of responsive, accessible user experiences using React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Promote maintainable engineering patterns, appropriate reuse, automated testing, clear documentation, and clean deployment practices.
  • Diagnose complex application issues across front-end, API, service, database, integration, and hosting layers.

Application Security and Risk Management

  • Embed secure software development practices throughout requirements, design, coding, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Lead application threat modeling, secure design reviews, security-focused code reviews, and remediation of identified vulnerabilities.
  • Apply practical knowledge of OWASP application security risks, authentication and authorization, identity and access management, secrets management, encryption, dependency risk, input validation, and secure API design.
  • Partner with Information Security and infrastructure teams on vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, incident response, audit support, and security control adoption.
  • Ensure applications, libraries, and third-party components are inventoried, monitored, patched, and upgraded in a risk-based and timely manner.
  • Coach developers on defensive coding and make security expectations part of the team’s definition of done.

Delivery, Quality, and Operations

  • Own engineering execution from technical discovery through production release and ongoing support, with clear visibility into risks, decisions, and progress.
  • Improve software quality through unit, integration, regression, performance, and security testing, with automation wherever practical.
  • Establish effective code review, branching, build, deployment, release, and rollback practices within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Improve application observability through actionable logging, monitoring, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for significant defects or incidents and ensure durable corrective actions are completed.
  • Balance new feature delivery with modernization, reliability, maintainability, and reduction of technical debt.

Technical Direction and Collaboration

  • Provide technical direction for the AgentMate application while operating within established enterprise architecture, security, infrastructure, and technology standards.
  • Work closely with product owners, delivery managers, architects, security partners, QA, operations, and business stakeholders to shape feasible solutions and delivery plans.
  • Communicate technical tradeoffs, risks, dependencies, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Maintain current application, integration, data-flow, deployment, and support documentation sufficient for operational continuity.
  • Evaluate new technologies and patterns based on business value, security, supportability, cost, and team readiness rather than novelty.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of professional application development experience, including substantial hands-on experience with Microsoft .NET technologies.
  • 2+ years of formal people leadership, engineering management, team lead, or comparable experience with responsibility for coaching and delivery.
  • Advanced proficiency with C#, .NET/.NET Core, ASP.NET Core, RESTful APIs, SQL, object-oriented design, asynchronous programming, and modern testing practices.
  • Strong hands-on experience building and supporting modern web applications with React and TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Demonstrated application security experience, including secure coding, threat modeling, vulnerability remediation, authentication/authorization, OWASP risks, dependency management, and secure API practices.
  • Experience with cloud-hosted applications and services, preferably Microsoft Azure, including CI/CD, monitoring, secrets/configuration management, and production support.
  • Experience integrating applications with internal and third-party services using APIs, messaging, and scheduled or event-driven processing.
  • Proven ability to lead technical delivery, make sound tradeoffs, manage risk, and communicate effectively across technical and business teams.
  • Willingness and ability to contribute directly to code, design, reviews, and incident resolution as team needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience modernizing legacy .NET applications or decomposing tightly coupled systems in an incremental, low-risk manner.
  • PCI Professional (PCIP), Security+, CISSP, CSSLP, or comparable security certification.
  • Working knowledge of PCI DSS requirements and the application-development responsibilities associated with PCI compliance.
  • Experience with Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Azure Service Bus, Azure SQL, API Management, Key Vault, Application Insights, or comparable services.
  • Experience with identity platforms and standards such as Microsoft Entra ID, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, and role-based access control.
  • Experience with software composition analysis, static and dynamic application security testing, secrets scanning, and remediation workflows.
  • Familiarity with performance engineering, caching, resiliency patterns, distributed systems, and production observability.
  • Experience in travel technology, CRM, member-facing platforms, or systems involving complex third-party integrations.
